Restoration of a Beautiful Red Brick Building
In the autumn of 2018, LIND Studio obtained planning permission for the redevelopment of 60 Oldham Street into 3no. apartments and a commercial space at ground floor. The derelict four storey Victorian tenement block in the heart of the Stevenson Square Conservation Area had suffered from years of neglect, making the project a challenging and complex undertaking.
The property was transformed both internally and externally, through a sensitive restoration of the red brick and sandstone facade alongside a complete refurbishment within to give room for three contemporary dwellings of the highest standard.
A reclaimed teak parquet flooring was installed throughout hallways and living areas, adding real warmth and character to the rooms. For the rest of the interiors a neutral colour palette contrasts the flooring, giving a calm and contemporary feel to the apartments. Original features such as the timber sash windows and timber roof structure were restored as part of the works, and the existing light well re-instated.
