A Contemporary Take on the Traditional Terrace

In the bustling market town of Ulveston, LIND Studio was engaged to reimagine a prominent plot in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria. Taking cues from the historic character and rhythm of the surrounding streetscape, a scheme for three houses was developed in the form of a stepped terrace typical of the conservation area in which the site is located. 

Whilst the design is contemporary in nature, the local vernacular is further reflected in the pattern of fenestration and aesthetic expression that is typical of the area with limewash render facades set against lakeland stone boundary walls.

Energy efficiency and thermal performance was a key focus for the development, which have been designed to achieve an EPC rating A under the new SAP requirements. High levels of thermal insulation coupled with solar panels and electric export meters were some of the strategies used to enhance the energy performance of these new dwellings.
