A Contemporary Addition for Added Living Space

Located in a picturesque rural setting in the heart of the Lake District, Greenthorn Barn is a semi-detached historic cottage surrounded by secluded woodland and rolling countryside. The clients were looking renovate the existing property whilst increasing the living area by adding a contemporary extension to the rear.

By relocating the kitchen, dining and lounge to the lower ground floor, the traditional cottage is transformed into a comfortable 21st century abode with the main living areas opening up onto the garden. A roof terrace above the extension makes the most of the South facing aspect of the site, whilst sleek corner glazing on the lower ground floor directs the views towards the foliage beyond. 

Feature corner glazing maximises the views towards the garden, whilst also bringing more light into the downstairs living space. By utilising traditional materials and detailing in a contemporary expression, the extension forms a seamless addition to the existing cottage.
