Sensitive Restoration of Historic Manor House

LIND Studio recently obtained Planning Approval and Listed Building Consent for the sensitive refurbishment and alterations to Grade II* Listed no. 1 Entwistle Hall.

Dating back to the 16th Century, the North Turton former Manor House is steeped in history. The Entwistle Hall manor was held by the Hospitallers by the Entwistle family until mid-C16 when it passed to the Tyldesley family, who subsequently divided and sold it in 1657.

Internally, quirky historic details abound, such as the original timber staircase extending in a multitude of directions from a central location within the property. Other features include a large oval moulded plaster panel with foliated patterns in the entrance hall, and in the lounge a double-shouldered segmental-headed stone fireplace forms the centre piece.

Throughout this project, our aim has been to celebrate the unique character of the house through careful restoration and sensitive alterations, to improve its appearance and utility by replacing the dated non-original features such as the kitchen and bathroom.
